It never fails. Every year around this time I start to hear a lot of people talking about how next year is going to be different. How this year is going to be the year they finally reach their fitness goals.
They are all excited about this new program they are going to “try” or some new diet or detox program they want to do. Studies have shown that over 90% of people quit their New Year fitness program or diet before January is even over! That’s just the first month…
The problem is that people give too much credit and blame to the diets and workouts that they do. But the truth is… 90% of the diet and workout programs out there actually work to some degree… if you do them consistently.
So the #1 Reason why you won’t be successful in 2012 isn’t going to be your diet or workout program.
It’s your limiting beliefs. We all have them. Most people don’t really believe they can actually reach their goals. This applies to all aspects of your life too, not just fitness. I can see it when I am talking to someone about losing weight or body fat. When I tell them that they can accomplish a certain goal by a certain time and they don’t believe it they will either laugh or flat out say no way.
Look I have been doing this a long time and have seen some amazing transformations. We have had some crazy transformations in our boot camp in 2011. I know what is possible because I see people do it time and time again.
Two things that will effect your belief system. The people you surround yourself with and the thoughts that occupy your mind. I firmly believe that the people you surround yourself with control a lot of the things you think about.
That is one of the reasons why boot camps are so valuable and people get such good results. It is full of positive people that you surround yourself with that will constantly encourage you and lift you up and tell you that you can do it. After a boot camp workout you have this great feeling of accomplishment and think about how great you feel a day long.
It’s only a matter of time before you start believing you can reach your goal and start taking the necessary steps to reach them.
If you really want 2012 to be different then keep reading…
Because today I want to give you 6 ways that tell you what it really takes to succeed and what you should be looking for in a diet and workout program.
- If you look for a program or diet solely based on the price then I can tell you that you are not ready to commit or make any real changes. The people that I see get the best results are the ones that invest in themselves the most.
- Any fitness professional should be able to give you an effective workout that will help you get the results you want. If someone is telling you how great their workout is and how so in so’s workout sucks, that should be a red flag, stay away. Instead, look for a place that motivates and inspires you to show up to your workouts, get outside of your comfort zone, take action, and make some real changes. You should look forward to your workouts, not dread them.
- You have to set goals. You can’t just show up to a fitness program and hope that something good happens. Without specific goals and deadlines it is impossible to know if you are doing enough to reach your goals.
- You need to have some kind of accountability in your program. You are human and without someone to check in with you and hold you accountable it is easy to get side tracked or even quit.
- You have to have good solid nutrition habits. Don’t start a “diet” if it’s not something you can see yourself doing for the rest of your life. The word “diet” by itself makes you think of something you are on and that you will eventually go off. No matter how good of a diet it is, if it doesn’t teach you new and healthy nutrition habits you will just go back to what you used to do and lose any results that you achieved.
- You have to make it a priority. If you can’t commit or you are not willing to make the necessary changes then you are better off not even starting a new program and waiting until you are ready. Every time you tell yourself that you are going to reach a certain goal and you don’t follow through, it is 100X harder to achieve that goal the next time you try.
