The best thing you can do is find a Workout Partner! They will help you stay  consistent and won’t let you quit! If you don’t know anyone that has the same goals as you I would strongly recommend hiring a fitness coach.

I was lucky and found mine at the rock climbing gym. Now 2 1/2 years later we are getting married.

5 Tips when Picking a Workout Partner

1. Make sure they have the same goals as you do. If you are trying to lose weight you don’t want to be working out with a bodybuilder or a skinny guy trying to gain weight.

2.Make sure they are as committed as you are. There is nothing worse than being stood up on your first workout! What a let down!

3.Make sure one of you knows what they are doing. Hint: It’s better to find a partner that knows more than you do and is in better shape than you are. They will push you harder.  Unless you are the controlling type then find a newbie and show them the way!

4. Have a set schedule. Agree on a time and a place ahead of time. Try to keep it consistent week to week. The less missed appointments means better results for you!

5. Pick someone that is positive! It gets really old listening to someone complain all the time.  They will drag you down to their level. I get paid to listen to complaints, but for you it will be a much better experience if you have someone that is motivating and encouraging!

Now that you know what to look for you need to know where to look!

You can find them at work, the gym, local tracks, parks, friends or family members, church, or pretty much any group you are a part of. Everyone you know is a potential workout partner.

Like I said I was lucky I found mine at the rock climbing gym. We had some what different goals. I was able to get her to ride 100 miles on her bike. After that, with her being a marathoner, I owed her a marathon. 2 years later she helped me finish the San Diego Marathon! We are a good team. We try to keep each other accountable. Some times we do let each other slip.

Beef tips and Brie. We were on vacation in Colorado, not a normal meal. After all It was after climbing all day. Don’t get in the habit of this.  :)

But all in all we balance each other out and make a really good team. I have to say I wouldn’t have done half of the endurance events I have done if it wasn’t for Jessica pushing me and telling me I could do it. So don’t underestimate the power of a good workout partner. Good luck and when you find the right one you will know it!
