I recently came across an app called Nike Boom, by Nike Incorporated. It’s not the highest rated app, (Apple users give it 3.5 stars) but it still sounds kind of interesting. According to its market description the app syncs your workouts with your music, and provides workout encouragement from trainers. It’s available in both the iPhone and Android market, and one of the best features is that it’s available to download for free. So, it made me wonder what other cool apps may be out on the market. I checked for the highest rated health and fitness apps (both free and paid) in the Android and iPhone market; take a look at some favorites I have listed below (all receiving between 4/5 and 5/5 stars).

Daily Ab Workout FREE by Daniel Miller Apple (4.5) Android (4.6) The name of this app pretty much explains it all, it is a 5 to 10 minute exercise for your abs everyday. A video with a trainer will note proper form, how much time you have left in your workout and how many ab moves you have left to go.
Lose It! by FitNow, Inc. Apple (4.5) Android (4.5) This app is designed to keep track of your calorie intake. What’s most interesting to me about Lose It! is its food budget, which tells you how many calories you’ve consumed and how many you’ve burned in a day.
GoMeals by sanofi-aventis U.S. LLC Apple (4) Android (3.6) Take a look at GoMeals Today’s Plate screenshot, users can enter a food and it will break down the nutrition facts for you! With that said, one of the user complaints from the Apple store is that certain foods aren’t recognized by the app; but it does have information on a number of foods in restaurants and grocery stores. Android users weren’t as impressed with this app. A similar app with a 4 star rating , Restaurant Calorie Counter, is available on the Android market, but it costs $3.99.
